Shaina McCoy receives Kidney Transplant through Living Donation
Stories of living kidney donation remind us how powerful generosity and community can be.
Former Fayette County sheriff’s deputy Shaina McCoy recently received a life-saving kidney transplant after waiting three years while undergoing daily dialysis.
Just six weeks after surgery, McCoy was already beginning to regain her strength and return to normal life after years of dialysis. She hopes her story encourages others facing kidney disease not to lose hope while waiting for a transplant.
McCoy’s transplant became possible thanks to a generous living donor, Tim Torberg. Although Torberg was not a direct match for McCoy, he donated a kidney through a paired exchange program. His donation helped move McCoy up the transplant list and ultimately led to the transplant that changed her life.
Living kidney donation continues to save lives for people like McCoy who are waiting for a transplant. Stories like this highlight how compassion, community support, and donor generosity can transform lives.
At End the Wait Foundation, we are committed to raising awareness about living kidney donation and supporting individuals and families navigating kidney disease.
